This is a location with a spacious environment for the situated drinker, but also a great hangout for the outgoing type looking for a good time. Reasonable drink prices, an attentive staff and 27 TVs create the perfect atmosphere for a game-night hop-in. Poker tournaments on weeknights, live bands on Friday and Saturday, no-cover PPV events and a full food menu.
SA’s chicest gay dance club hosts weekly drag shows, amateur nights, and theme parties set to some of the most up-to-date dance music on the Main strip. The ultra-modern back video-lounge is perfect for watching the circus of twinks, trannies, and muscle-daddies pretending not to notice each other.
SA’s first hotel-style rooftop lounge is an official must-see for partyers under 30. You might have to wait in line on a weekend night, but the place honestly looks best before the crowd arrives. Consider arriving early for an outdoor cocktail; if it feels like a good fit, you’ll be in position for a rotating cast of DJs and people watching of the ego-fueled variety. Luxe outdoor furnishings give IVY a slick South Beach vibe, while drink prices fortunately remain within this time zone.
Kickers, classic-rock, and rap coexist happily here, aided by a karaoke-brokered dance floor that's run with flash and authority by Big Tyme's Big Daddy Fred. -- Mark Jones (03/09)
Possibly SA’s most entertaining karaoke spot, Pegasus is also the most foolproof gay
meat market in town. Catch up on danceable music videos in the main bar, or gossip with the drag divas slamming high-octane cocktails before taking the stage elsewhere on the strip.
Featuring upbeat Top 40 music from the 80s to present day, a plush
environment, beautiful go-go dancers, and several VIP areas. Dress code enforced
This cozy, all-ages venue usually hosts shows of the various fist-swinging varieties: hardcore, punk, and other assorted noisemakers. But it’s also well equipped to host national touring acts like the Thermals. Escape the sweat fumes on the back porch and enjoy the nearly vacant, small-town-Texas view of the San Antonio River, before the River Walk expansion kicks into high gear and the area becomes gentrified as hell.
San Antonio, Heavy Metal Capital of the World, in a time capsule. Friendly vibe, too.

Rewarding first, second, and third places with trophies and other prizes, the contest also guarantees winners a spot in the 2014 Beyond the Canvas calendar.
Hello Studio hosts a screening of two videos written, recorded, and produced by Joe Raymond Vega, formerly of the band Xry. Exploring gender roles and sexuality, Vega's works speak to "those who indulge and are not afraid … everyone who has had to deal with racial or ethnic cruelty … straight, gay, and lesbian … outcasts of American society."
The AT&T Center hosts its first-ever outdoor rock festival on Memorial Day weekend. The full-day of rock music will feature a lineup of 15 bands and features: Guns N’ Roses, Alice in Chains, Bullet for my Valentine, Skillet, Halestorm, Asking Alexandria, All That Remains, Device, Clutch, The Sword, Young Guns, O’ Brother, The Heroine, and Memory of a Melody.
An innovative collaboration between the Office of Historic Preservation, the Department for Culture and Creative Development, and the Center City Development Office, the Center City Open House series is designed to showcase the potential of San Antonio’s vacant historic buildings. The inaugural event takes over a 1920s-era building at 201 West Commerce with a dynamic art display spanning the entire facade of the building (featuring artists Rex Hausmann, David Almaguer, and Kyle Martin), a performance of "Da Luz" by Ballet San Antonio, a "Barrio Couture" fashion presentation by local designer Agosto Cuellar, complimentary drinks courtesy of Freetail Brewery, and international hors d’oeuvres by Ming’s Thing.
Based in Monterrey, Mexico, alt-rock outfit Los Claxons — Mauricio Sanchez (voice and guitar), Ignacio Llantada (voice, guitar, and keys), Edgar Lozano (electric guitar), Pablo Gonzalez Sarre (bass and guitar), and Cesareo R. Castillo (drums) — has been nominated for two Latin Grammys and opened for Maroon 5.
Blue Starʼs first all-female exhibition since 2008's "Arte Latina: ROAR," "Texas Tough" represents multiple disciplines in four distinct shows: Sharon Kopriva: "From Terra to Verde," Sherry Owens: "Origins," Amita Bhatt: "Depends Who You Ask," and Jill Bedgood: "Book of Hours: Intervention."
