Dream Theater & The Crimson ProjeKct
It might seem odd to pay big coin and get dressed up to go to the Majestic and see a cover band, but Markus Reuter’s Crimson ProjeKct are no enthusiastic amateurs blasting out memorized King Crimson tunes. It’s essentially King Crimson itself (minus Robert Fripp) in a spin-off combination consisting of actual members of the band — including Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, and Pat Mastelotto — and led by Reuter, himself an incredibly accomplished master of such tricky instruments as the Chapman Stick, the Warr guitar, and the U8 Touch. He’ll be featuring the latter instrument — which he designed himself along with Austin’s Ed Reynolds — when the ProjeKct opens for Dream Theater. Aside from the advantage of playing alongside folks who have been with King Crimson from the very beginning, Reuter is, as befits the material, a mind-blowingly good musician with dazzling technical skills, and anyone who hasn’t seen a master of the U8 Touch guitar play before will be well-advised to wire their jaw shut beforehand. $30-$57, 7:30pm, Majestic Theatre, 224 E Houston, (800)745-3000, majesticempire.com.
