Friday Night Films in the Park: ¡Three Amigos!
Alamo Drafthouse and The Pearl team up once again to bring Friday Night Films in the Park back to the brewery. Director John Landis’ ¡Three Amigos! kicks off “Westerns,” one of two three-week series. Produced and co-written by Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels, the 1986 comedy stars Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short as Lucky Day, Dusty Bottoms, and Ned Nederlander — a trio of down-and-out silent movie “heroes” summoned to the Mexican village of Santo Poco to save the townspeople from a menacing bandit named “El Guapo.” In spite of mixed reviews, the film emerged as something of an ’80s classic thanks to an undeniable dynamic, a “plethora of piñatas,” costumed gun-spinning, and a campfire meal of “desert bat,” not to mention such memorable quotes as “No, we will not die like dogs! We will fight like lions! Because we are ... The Three Amigos!” Promising an array of interactive elements like quote-alongs, milkshake contests, water-gun play, and other bonus features “that go beyond the traditional movie watching experience,” the series digs into the Texas cattle drive (1948’s Red River) and intergalactic war (2005’s Serenity) before moving on to August’s theme: “Oil Boom.” Free; 8pm; Pearl Brewery, 200 E Grayson, (210) 212-7260, atpearl.com.
