Folk Family Revival
Not purely a family or folk band, the four-piece Folk Family Revival is made up of brothers Mason, Barrett, and Lincoln Lankford plus Caleb Pace, a childhood friend brought into the fold after a fateful moment of camaraderie in church. Experimenting with a variety of original music — including the hard-rocking Christian variety — since they were preteens, the quartet appears to have found its calling with Unfolding, a rootsy 2011 debut that weaves together elements of country, Americana, blues, and bluegrass. Faith-based themes emerge here and there, but there’s enough coming of age and heartbreak in the lyrics to keep the album sounding anything but preachy. With a SXSW showcase and gigs opening for Willie Nelson and Ray Wylie Hubbard already under their belts, it’s safe to say these Magnolia-based 20-somethings are on the right track. Also on the bill: Kyle Reed Band and Roadside Libby.
