Theatre ASAP
The San Antonio Theatre Coalition’s Theatre ASAP thrives on spontaneity. Annually, the timed competition tasks dramatists with creating short new works in 24 hours. On Friday, local playwrights Rachel Keeler, Joe Green, Ben Tremillo, William Razavi, Rick Stemm, and Mike Greenberg will draw props, phrases, an outline for a cast, and a required line of dialogue to incorporate into their scripts. Saturday morning, directors Diana Forgione, Diane Malone, Dave Cortez, Kristopher “KT” Thomas, Emily Fitzgerald, Keisha McFerrin, and upwards of 20 actors will hit the ground running — memorizing, rehearsing, staging, and fine-tuning the plays in 12 hours. Since its inception in 2004, Theatre ASAP has hopped from the Vex to Northwest Vista College to Our Lady of the Lake and lands this year at the Woodlawn for another dramatic evening in fast forward.
