Cavalcade of the Stars with Esperanza Spalding
In a few short years, Esperanza Spalding went from promising young bassist to international star and is now one of music’s most captivating artists, jazz or otherwise. The singer, songwriter, and accomplished musician made headlines with her several White House visits and, most notably, her Best New Artist upset of Justin Bieber at last year’s Grammys. However, it is Spalding’s recent musical evolution that has proved most noteworthy of late. Her latest album, the Billboard Top-10 release Radio Music Society, shows Spalding capable of reaching beyond straight-ahead jazz to incorporate funk, R&B, and Stevie Wonder-inflected pop sounds into her music. Spalding’s performance will kick off the Carver’s 2012 “Cavalcade of the Stars” Fundraiser, which helps support a variety of the nonprofit’s programs.
