ASSOCIATE EDITOR FOR SCREENS, MUSIC, & TECH

Position available at the San Antonio Current
Type of position: permanent, full-time

The Current, San Antonio’s award-winning altweekly newspaper is seeking an Associate Editor to oversee Screens, Tech, and Music coverage for SA’s growing metropolitan area, including live-music events, local and national films, and video-game and online reviews. The Associate Editor is responsible for assigning and editing stories from staff and freelance writers for the paper and website. S/he also contributes reviews to the paper and website on a weekly basis, as well as a monthly Screens or Music lede and four cover stories annually. This position entails direct web publishing of both reviews and blog posts. This is a get-out-of-the office job that requires attendance at openings, screenings, and related events. You don’t have to know how to incorporate video and audio into your online coverage, but you have to be willing to learn.

San Antonio is a majority-Latino city with a vibrant, multi-culti arts and music scene. After years of living in Austin’s shadow, the local music scene is heating up again, and the indie film scene is taking off, too. We’re looking for someone who will get out into the community and get to know the folks on the ground while maintaining a critical voice and perspective.

Two years editing experience required, plus relevant published clips, and a demonstrated knowledge of film and music. Video-game and online-game coverage, or at least enthusiasm, a plus. Altweekly experience strongly preferred. This is a full-time, in-house position. NO FREELANCE OR REMOTE WORK.

The Current is owned by Times-Shamrock Communications, with sister altweeklies located in Orlando, Detroit, Cleveland, and Baltimore. T-S is an equal-opportunity employer.

Send a résumé, clips (via Word, pdf, text file, or link), and short cover letter to: Elaine Wolff, Editor, ewolff@sacurrent.com.
