Wednesday, December 3 at Mariachi Music
The 14th Annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza is Texas’s largest and longest running Latin music event of its kind, attracting more than 20,000 people to the Alamo City for the week-long music festival. The Extravaganza includes a mariachi-themed art exhibit at the Centro Cultural Aztlán, Christmas-themed student mariachi serenades on the River Walk, workshops, group and vocal competitions, and more. The highlight of the seven-day celebration is a concert featuring the world-renowned, Mexico City-based Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán. Now in its fifth generation, the group is producing a CD each year — which brings their discography to more than 60 — and their music is in approximately 200 films and music videos. They have recorded with Luis Miguel, toured with Linda Ronstadt, and were featured in the PBS special “Mariachi: The Spirit of Mexico.” Sunday, November 30, through Saturday, December 6. Complete schedule of times, locations, and events at mariachimusic.com. [more]
